Following a screening of Baz Luhrmann’s
Elvis biopic, director Guillermo del Toro points out a connection between the legendary musician and the DC comics superhero
Shazam. Winning a Best Director Oscar for his 2017 film,
The Shape of Water, del Toro has earned a reputation for his unique talents behind the camera. However, his career has also shown that he enjoys comic books, having helmed several adaptations, including
Hellboy,
Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and
Blade II. With that background, the director couldn’t help but see a comic book connection with
Elvis.,Elvis is the forthcoming biopic about the life and career of the iconic rock and roll star. Directed by Luhrmann, whose previous work includes 2001’s
Moulin Rouge! and 2013’s
The Great Gatsby,
Elvis has the same unique look and pace the director has become known for, while grounding it within a true story. Austin Butler stars as Elvis Presley, alongside a cast that includes Tom Hanks, Olivia DeJonge, Kodi Smit-McPhee, David Wenham, and Dacre Montgomery.,Related: Guillermo Del Toro’s Favorite Horror Movies,After a screening of
Elvis, del Toro took to Twitter to praise the film. The director called the movie
“dazzling, bold and moving,” while also hailing Butler’s portrayal of Elvis. However, del Toro also mentions that Elvis and DC’s Shazam share a unique similarity in their capes. Check out del Toro’s tweet about
Elvis and
Shazam below:,Click here to view the original post on Twitter,Elvis Presley brought a certain flair to the stage throughout his career, often donning capes with flashy outfits in his 1960s and 70s performances. The connection del Toro points out comes down to Shazam wearing a similar cape. While many heroes don flowing capes, like Superman and Batman, Shazam’s is often distinctly shorter than most and generally white with gold trim, matching those commonly worn by the rock and roll legend. Given del Toro’s love of comics, it may not have taken a big push to make the connection, and the Oscar winner also might not be the only one to notice the similarity, especially with the prevalence of comic book adaptations hitting theaters.,Elvis’ release date is set for June 24, and del Toro’s glowing review offers promise for the biopic. Shazam is also set to return to cinemas this year with
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a sequel to the 2019 self-titled feature film. Given the projects’ close release dates, audiences will soon get a chance to see for themselves whether the iconic rock and roll king in
Elvis and the titular hero of
Shazam! Fury of the Gods really do resemble each other as much as del Toro has posited.,Next: Every Movie Releasing In Summer 2022,Source: Guillermo del Toro
