NGCP implements yellow alert at Luzon grid

The Luzon grid is under the yellow alert status this morning and afternoon —indicating the thinning of power reserves in the grid after several plants were derated and went on a forced outage.,In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) raised the yellow alert status from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm today.,A yellow alert is raised when reserves are thin but it doesn’t necessarily lead to brownouts.,In this case, the grid had a total unplanned unavailable energy of 1,439 megawatts (MW).,GN Power Dinginin (668 MW), GMEC Coal-Fired Power Plant Unit 2 (316 MW), Calaca Power Plant 2 (240 MW), and SLPGC 3 and 4 (50 MW) went on forced outages while Masinloc 1 Plant was derated by 165 MW.,The grid operator reported 11,847 MW of available capacity against the 11,177 MW of operating requirement as of this morning, bringing the net operating margin to only 236 MW.,The NGCP holds a 25-year franchise to solely operate the transmission assets of the government.
