Solon files bill to rename NAIA

Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. has filed House Bill 610 or an initiative to rename Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport.,The solon said, “it is more appropriate to rename it to the person who has contributed to the idea and execution of the said noble project.”,The NAIA was the former Manila International Airport (MIA), constructed in 1982 — during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.,MIA was renamed NAIA in 1987 under Republic Act 6639, administered by the late President Cory Aquino. Her late husband Ninoy Aquino, assassinated on the tarmac of the airport, served as the inspiration for the name.,In the explanatory note, Teves pointed out that “it is more appropriate to bear the name that has contributed and legacy in our country to make the Philippines a center of international and domestic air travel, who has instituted and built or conceptualized the project in making pride of our country.”,The bill was filed on 30 June, the first day of the 19th Congress.
