Senator Francis Tolentino on Thursday said he will leave the decision to his colleagues in the upper chamber on who will be leading the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee in the 19th Congress.,“The committee chairmanship is supposed to be elected by majority. I will abide by the decision of the majority once the 19th Congress convenes,” Tolentino said in an interview with CNN Philippines.,“It’s up to the majority, it’s up to the members of the Senate,” he added.,Tolentino did not explicitly show his intent to lead the Blue Ribbon Committee, which was initially offered to him by Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, who is poised to be next Senate President in the incoming 19th Congress.,However, he said he would not reject the call to head the committee if his colleagues decided to elect him to the position.,“If I’m elected, I would not probably turn my back as to the decision of the Senate. I’ve been a worker ever since,” said Tolentino. “I will not dilly-dally on whatever is given to me by the majority.”, ,Cayetano ‘well-qualified’,In the same interview, Tolentino, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Local Government, said returning Senator Alan Peter Cayetano is also “well-qualified” to head the committee.,“Senator Cayetano, the former Speaker, is well-qualified. I think he was a head before of the Blue Ribbon committee. So all senators are qualified. So we will just leave the decision to the majority, whatever chairmanship they would give me,” Tolentino said.,This, after Zubiri disclosed that Cayetano is eyeing to head the same committee, which Tolentino had already accepted.,Earlier, Cayetano floated the idea of leading the committee that was tasked to investigate alleged wrongdoings of the government, its officials, and its attached agencies, in exchange for joining the majority bloc.
