Obi-Wan Kenobi head writer and executive producer Joby Harold explains why the Jedi tomb scene in episode 4 is crucial to the character’s journey. After last appearing in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan is back in Disney+’s latest Star Wars show, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The show bridges the gap between the version of Obi-Wan depicted in the prequel trilogy and Alec Guinness’s version of the character in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.,Obi-Wan Kenobi has been a hit with both fans and critics thus far, depicting Kenobi’s attempts to rescue a young Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) from a group of Jedi hunters known as Inquisitors. After episode 3’s exciting showdown with Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen), episode 4 features Obi-Wan breaking into Fortress Inquisitorius to free Leia from the clutches of Reva (Moses Ingram). While inside the facility, Obi-Wan discovers what is essentially a Jedi tomb, a room filled with dead Jedi preserved in what appears to be an amber-like resin. The scene is made even more shocking for both Obi-Wan and the audience by the inclusion of a Youngling in one of the Jedi corpse displays.,Related: Kenobi Is Making Rise Of Skywalker’s Leia & Rey Story Better,In a new interview with SyFy, Harold explains the importance of the Jedi tomb scene and reveals that the moment was crucial for Obi-Wan’s journey as a character. At the start of the series, Harold explains, Obi-Wan has shut himself off from much of what is going on in the galaxy around him and, while he knows about the mass hunting and extermination of the Jedi, it doesn’t truly hit him until seeing the tomb on Fortress Inquisitorius. Check out Harold’s full comment below:,Obi-Wan as he is depicted in the show is a far cry from what audiences last saw in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The beloved Jedi is older, more cynical, and content with living a solitary life on Tatooine. The events of the show have forced him to once more embrace the Jedi he once was and episode 4 sees him confront the extermination of the Jedi head-on in a way he never had before. Obi-Wan was clearly shaken by his discovery of the Jedi tomb but the episode didn’t totally give him time to reflect on it, with the rescuing of Princess Leia his top priority.,It remains to be seen what the effects of Obi-Wan’s discovery will be on his psyche, but it’s possible that audiences will see the ramifications in the remaining 2 episodes of the show. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been building towards a major showdown between McGregor’s character and Reva and, although Obi-Wan ran away from a confrontation with her in episode 2, it’s possible that discovering the Jedi tomb in episode 4 will push him to finally fight her head-on. With only 2 episodes remaining, audiences don’t have much longer to wait to see the conclusion of Obi-Wan Kenobi and McGregor’s take on the beloved character.,More: Genius Star Wars Theory Links Kenobi’s Dead Jedi To Palpatine & Snoke,Source: SyFy
