Marcos meets China’s top envoy
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, 6 July held a meeting with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, after the latter paid a courtesy call at Malacañang Palace.,Yi was the first top diplomat received by the new Chief Executive since he took office last 30 June.,Marcos expressed his gratitude to Yi for conveying the greetings and support of his counterpart Chinese President Xi Jinping.,“I am grateful to Minister Wang Yi for extending the message of congratulations and support from President Xi Jinping,” the President wrote on Twitter after his meeting with the foreign minister.,He said that the topics discussed during their meeting range from agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and commitments to maintaining the strong relationship between the two countries in the coming years.,It was not clear whether they discussed the issues on the West Philippines Sea.,Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Enrique Manalo and Yi led the unveiling of a scale model of the Samal Island-Davao City Connector Project, which will be funded by the Republic of China through the Official Development Assistance.,The 3.98-kilometer two-way, four-lane bridge that will connect the Samal Circumferential Road in the Island Garden City of Samal to the R. Castillo – Daang Maharlika junction in Davao City which will cost P23.039-billion.,The loan agreement was signed by former Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III and Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian last June 13.
